Candle magic is one of the most important things to learn as a Wiccan, as candle magic is very versatile in its use. Generally when setting up your altar the candle would represent fire, however, the candle itself is a balanced representation of all the elements with the flame representing fire, the wax transitioning from solid to liquid representing water, the base and wick representing earth, and the smoke representing air. Most spells and rites include candle magic, so it is a great place to start when studying Wicca. Basic candle spells are a great place to start when practicing spells because they help learn focus, and focusing energy is the main principle of spellcasting. Consider candles like a messenger to the spiritual plane. You set your intention with the candle, either with carving runes or words into the candle itself, burning a note with your intention upon it, or just saying your spell and focusing your energy into the candle. Generally, you would then let the candle burn itself out to have the spell work. Sidenote, please make sure you are always practicing fire safety, make sure there is nothing near your candle that could burn, don’t leave lit candles unattended, and always place them on or in something that won’t melt or burn, I personally keep mine in a small cast iron cauldron. Colour correspondence is an important part of candle magic, as each colour represents a different quality which can help set intentions. An important note to add is that these colour correspondences can be applied to anything, not just candles, maybe the robe you wear, or the ink you write spells with.
